At Catholic Roads, we’re about faith along the way.

Catholic Roads explores South Carolina—all of which is within the geographic boundaries of the Diocese of Charleston—not just as a place to visit, but as a landscape that has been shaped by prayer, worship, tradition, and faithful people quietly living out the Gospel.

The Holy Highway …

We travel what we call The Holy Highway, visiting churches, shrines, sacred landmarks, and parish communities that invite reflection and a deeper sense of pilgrimage. Some places are well known. Others are humble and easily missed unless you’re paying attention.

Stories …

Along these roads, we listen for stories—of saints and sinners, clergy and laypeople, past generations and present witnesses. These are not always dramatic stories, but they are faithful ones, revealing how holiness often shows up in ordinary lives and familiar places.

History and Tradition …

We explore sacred history and tradition—the liturgical seasons, devotions, symbols, and practices that have shaped Catholic life in South Carolina over time. The goal is not to overwhelm, but to illuminate: to help readers understand not just what Catholics do, but why it matters.

Daily Bread and Food Too …

And because faith is lived in community, we make room for the table as well. Parish meals, fish fries, shared food, and everyday fellowship remind us that breaking bread has always been part of the journey.

The Role of Art …

As with Palmetto Places, artwork plays a central role here. Sacred silhouettes, church architecture, and visual symbols help tell the story—quietly pointing toward the beauty and meaning found along the road.

Meeting God Where We Are …

Catholic Roads is not about rushing from place to place. It’s about traveling attentively, noticing grace, and discovering that God has been meeting people right where they are—often just down the road.

Join the Journey

Follow along as we travel parish to parish, discovering the faith, food, and friendliness that make South Carolina a truly blessed place to live.

We promise stories that are mostly true, treasures that whisper of Carolina history, and caricatures that make you smile and think of Heaven.

Because the road to Heaven runs through South Carolina — and God’s waiting at every turn.

Palmetto Silhouettes — A Gentle Way of Seeing

Palmetto Silhouettes are black-and-white artistic portraits of South Carolina’s most recognizable and quietly beautiful places—bridges, churches, coastlines, town landmarks, and familiar scenes—rendered in a simple, timeless silhouette style. They are a beautiful way for visitors to become familiar with popular sites within the Diocese of Charleston.

Like Creation itself, they begin in darkness and are shaped by light.

Rather than focusing on every detail, Palmetto Silhouettes capture form, balance, and character, allowing the viewer’s imagination to do some of the work too.
