The Great Catholic Mystery Tour: No GPS Required

Let’s face it—mystery is baked right into our Catholic faith. We’ve got Mysteries of the Rosary, the Paschal Mystery, and the classic catch-all phrase for anything we can’t fully explain: “It’s a mystery.” And the best part? We say that with a straight face… and then go to coffee and donuts like everything’s perfectly normal.

See, the Church has always believed that faith and reason work together. God gave us brains, and He expects us to use them. But at the same time, He didn’t hand us the complete instruction manual. There are parts missing—not because God lost them. It’s because He’s God, and well … we’re not.

For Example

Take God’s ability to be everywhere at once. He’s not bound by space or time. Meanwhile, we can barely find our car keys in the morning and need a GPS to go to the grocery store. That’s not a dig—it’s just the reality of living with a finite brain that has eternal aspirations.

The irony is, the more we learn about God, the more we realize how little we understand. It’s like trying to download the entire internet onto a toaster. There’s just not enough bandwidth. But that’s not a bug in the system—it’s actually part of the design. God wants us to seek Him, love Him, and trust Him ... even when He’s being, well, mysterious.

That’s what faith is: not shutting down our thinking, but knowing when to stop insisting on full comprehension. You don’t need to know how every wire in your car works before going for a ride. You just need to trust that the engine will turn over—and there’s enough gas in the tank (spiritually speaking, of course).

Looking Ahead

So the next time you’re scratching your head about the Trinity, or wondering how Jesus can be fully God and fully man, or trying to figure out how the Eucharist is really His Body and Blood … just smile. You’re not failing. You’re actually standing on holy ground.

Because mystery isn’t a gap in knowledge—it’s your doorway into wonder. And it’s an invitation to Contemplatio (contemplating God and your faith).

Our Story

And in the Catholic Church, wonder is always welcome. In fact, it’s kind of our thing.

That’s our story, and we’re sticking to it! Vivat Jesus!
