Living Wisely Each Day
Psalm 90:12 — Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
Ever seen an old fella squinting at a church sign like he’s trying to crack a secret code? We did—and we drew him! Right outside the church, nailed to the brick wall like a holy Post-it Note, was this verse from Psalm 90:12:
“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”
Now, if you’re like our good friend Earl (pictured), you might be thinking, “Well shoot, I number my days just fine. I just forget where I put the list.” But this verse isn’t about counting days on a calendar. It’s about living each one like it counts.
Big difference!
What’s It Really Saying?
It’s Moses talking here (yep, the burning bush guy), asking God to help us realize that life is short—too short to waste on foolishness. When we remember that our days are limited, we start to live with more purpose, more love, and a whole lot more wisdom.
Two Simple Ideas to “Number Your Days” Better:
Start your day with a purpose.
Before the coffee even kicks in, whisper a prayer: “Lord, help me use today well.” It’s like spiritual caffeine.End your day with a quick review.
Ask yourself, “What did I do today that actually mattered?” (Eating three donuts might not make the cut.)
The Challenge
You don’t have to change everything overnight. Just do one wise thing today that your future self will thank you for. Then do another tomorrow. Little by little, day by day—that’s how wisdom grows.
